I have to say this was a great experience! Quick for scheduling, drop off and pick up. Very user friendly process, and I appreciated the communication of the front office at the beginning and end, as well as when the driver dropped off the dumpster. I plan on renting again very soon while doing my clean out and demo. I had a challenging driveway and they still made it happen! When the dumpster was removed it was like it was never there. West Memphis began its role as a trucking hub with the opening of parts of Interstate 55 in the 1950s. With both I-55 and I-40 traveling toward the Mississippi River, West Memphis became known as the "crossroads of America" in the trucking industry. In 1973, a six-lane highway bridge, known as the Hernando De Soto Bridge and located north of the Harahan, opened as part of I-40. The Big River Crossing now connects West Memphis, AR, to downtown Memphis. A major focus of the Big River Crossing is the “big river” itself, which visitors view from the nearly one-mile walkway built alongside the historic Harahan Bridge, one of the river’s former roadways. The Big River Crossing has the distinction of not only being the longest public pedestrian bridge across the “Father of Waters,” it is also the country’s longest active rail/bicycle/pedestrian bridge. The unparalleled views of the mighty Mississippi from the walkway are unlike most that visitors have seen before.
Legal greyhound racing began in the county in 1935. In the years that followed, the track closed several times—once for flooding, another due to World War II, and another time due to fire. However, the business currently known as Southland Park Gaming & Racing on North Ingram Boulevard has been in the same location since 1956 and is now open every day of the week, including 24 hours on weekends.
